Fairburn ings is an RSPB reservation not far from us here in West Yorkshire. Its been on our “to do” for a family day out for quite a while since Naths sister told us all about it, and so with some good weather and no plans, we decided this past Saturday would be the perfect opportunity. Ethan and Megan’s latest craze is “Bird watching” – they have these tacky binoculars each that they use whilst laid in bed pointing towards their Velux windows (only ever spotting pigeons here in the city) and often insist on taking them out in town to “look for the birds”. Here’s Megs just last Monday doing exactly that:
Because of this bird watching obsession, we figured they would love it even more and on que they grabbed their binoculars as we left. We had a lovely time there and found there to be a tonne of stuff to keep us all entertained and very cheap too…our kids thrive being outdoors which always makes for a pleasant time all round, so that with the added activities of Pond dipping, walks, quirky wooden park with bug houses, ice creams and of course a spot of bird watching meant that they absolutely LOVED it (they especially loved all the tadpoles they caught).
It was a great day and I expect we will be spending a lot of time there this summer as its just so beautiful and chilled. I never realised how family friendly the RSPB places were, to be honest I thought it was just for retired bird watchers – how wrong was I? Its always uplifting and joyful for us to have days like this, count our blessings, feel light and love life!
This sounds like such a lovely day out. I must admit I too thought the RSPB was for *cough* older people but looks a great place to get the children involved in nature. I must have a look to see if we have a local one x
I love this place Mary. We used to go there as kids with my family I even remember getting bitten by a swan. I was about 7 lol. Glad you had fun! Angela xx

Never been and didn’t realise how nice it was, then I realised we only saw half of it. Hahaha Angela, the cheeky swan x
