I have surprised myself recently with how successfully I have been able to get my craft on. The summer is always a busy time in our family with birthdays and fathers day and so to personalise these events a little and to cut down the cost I decided to try my hand at making a couple of gifts with my new found skills and hobbies. I also hoped it would determine whether or not I would be capable of of making more stuff come Christmas – I think I will ahhhhhh!
I never used to really be into crafts and don’t often do them (though I do now enjoy them more) but over the last few years I have figured out what crafty things I DO enjoy – and these would be EASY ONES mainly scrap booking and sewing. I feel that both are able to produce very varied and very lovely gifts for people as well as being useful to our family. The projects can be big or small and they are things you can easily leave and come back to. I really feel confident that these are “my crafts” and make me happy to do them.
For fathers day I made my dad this Pillowcase for him to use when he goes camping (he’s also into water activities hence the fish theme) – The fishy fabric was from the market at about £4/mtr and so have some left to make E some shorts or something and the back fabric was a piece I already had.
For my Sister I made her this little carry case for her bible/scriptures for church, it took about an hour and has a little press stud. The fabric came from some remnants I already had so I bought her some perfume in the Zara sale as a bonus – the whole gift was £2.99!!!
And finally, for my Sister in Laws recent Hen do, I bought a Jar (£1.99 in B&M) and some wide lolly sticks (£1.49 for 60) and had all the guests write date night/day ideas for her and her new husband as a memorable lovely gift from everyone there (spreading the love) there were some fab ideas from everyone and it looked lovely.
I am amazed how easy, cheap and effective they all were, how happy it made me feel to make them and the best was how much each of them loved it. I felt mint that I had tried my hand at some of my Pinterest projects and succeeded and I love that as I get older and try out new things I enjoy it more than I used to and that I really feel like I have very specific hobbies now that I make me happy to do (when I have some time).
What have you made recently?
Well done Mary! Personalised gifts are always the best. So much thought, care and time going into it. I have made a few digital photo albums for relatives before of my daughter and they always goes down well. #bestandworst x
Aw these are such lovely and thoughtful gifts Mary. I am rubbish at being creative but I do love looking (and marvelling) at how creative people are. Well done love xx
Ooh.. loving the crafty ideas. Did something similar with the lolly sticks and kids activity ideas last year – glad I read this as its reminded me to re-do it this year ready for the summer hols 😉
I love these! I like my scrapbooking and do loads but really think I should branch out a bit more and make some more presents for people. I love the Bible cover! Thanks for linking up for #bestandworst and see you soon! xx
