Father’s Day Celebrations: How To Make It Special For Your Dad

Father’s Day is coming up and you will likely be wanting to make it as special as it can be, for him and your family. With this last year being so different, fathers day 2021 could possibly be the first time everyone has been together in a long time, so how good would it be to put a big beaming smile on your dad’s face? You should make it personal and this article discusses how to make Father’s Day extra special for your father and family with some personalised decorations and little extra touches that will be sure to make it a special day for all.

Make Your Own Decorations

It sounds a bit basic but honestly, nothing beats the personal touch. You want to be able to make your own Father’s Day decorations because the whole idea is that it brings you closer to your parents. It can also be a great way to save money and be more sustainable too – both big ticks in our book.

If you are having everyone round for a barbecue or lunch (weather dependent maybe) then you can make it extra special with some homemade bunting and centrepieces. It’s likely you have garden furniture so why not put in a bit of effort with some arts and crafts (you could even make it into an activity with the kids). Try your hand at some floristry and put together a centrepiece to spruce up the garden table. Not only are you saving money on decorations, but it is sure to add a real personal feel to know that the family went that extra mile to make your dad feel special.

Personalise The Small Things

For a lot of people, the personal touch is so important – especially as they get older. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture or anything like that, but rather small and thoughtful ideas to show how much that person means. For some they carry a personalised photo in their wallet of their family or partner. Others will have a family picture on their key ring or desk (maybe get an updated one for dad this year?). People like to have personalised little things to remind them of loved ones and bring them joy to look at.

With this in mind, most parents will appreciate the little things like a lovely family portrait and will certainly love a personalised birthday card or fathers day card. It will likely be tucked away in a drawer or kept in a box for year to come, as it still means something! Remember, it doesn’t have to be a huge gesture, your dad is likely to remember a personalised photo banner that you can get online and will also require minimal effort from you. I’m not saying you should put in the minimal effort, it’s the gesture you are thinking of, but if DIY is not your thing, a personalised banner professionally made would go a long way with dad and will leave him something to cherish (or crack out on future occasions).

Bake their favourite treat

If unlike me you are actually good at baking and know your dad likes a certain treat, why not personalise the day by baking it for them. Not only will this gift be a tasty one, but it will also show that you gave of your time to think of them and make them something special. Most dad’s like baked goods; you could either wrap it up just for him in a cool or rustic way, or bake a whole batch/tray of his favourites for all the family to enjoy together. Either way, baked goods will be lovely this fathers day i’m sure.

Be a good listener

Regardless of age, your father or your grandfather will want to catch up with you – especially if it has been a while since you had the opportunity to be together in person. There’s not much to shout about recently but any news is news and reminiscing is always good fun too. Listen to those stories they might have told before or tales that make you laugh, because in times like these, a strong family bond can definitely put a smile on the faces of your family.

Ultimately, you need to ensure there is a personal element to any Father’s Day gatherings. Being together is what they will cherish but if there is any way you can remind them of the good times and a brighter future, personalising the day and a little extra effort will certainly be a good place to start.
