The Ordinary Moments 20/52 – Family Night

I absolutely love this time of year.  I love that most days it feels mild and the sun shines way more and that that then makes the world look a brighter place, I see all over the place people commenting on how much happier life feels when the sun is our, and I couldn’t agree more. I love to see the flowers and blossoms and I love to have more time to do things because it stays light. Isn’t it fab that such an ordinary sequence of seasons can always bring joy and excitement each time it comes around?

In our little home/family Monday evenings are “family night”,  its something both Nath and I did with our families growing up and that we both felt was important to do with our kids. We usually use the time to teach the kids a little lesson about Jesus or something church related (kindness, Bible, prayer, sharing, obedience,  honesty, friendship, talents etc ) and we always have a singing session with their instruments and finish up with a movie and treats. Some weeks it gets a little stressful as stuff always can when you have young kids but most weeks its a lovely opportunity to be together as a family and to talk about the things that are important to us and what Nathan and I would hope from our children. Its a couple of hours each week that we NEVER schedule anything and that we all look forward to.

IMG_0681This past Monday was a little different. Whilst we did the ordinary “family time” we took it outdoors to take advantage of the lovely sunny evenings we have had and enjoyed a lovely walk around some local grounds/park land for a manor house. We stopped off at Tesco for some reduced bread for the ducks and just spent time together appreciating nature and one another.

Who knows what that face is I'm pulling but we were having a laugh!

I loved seeing how excited the kids get about ducks, how Megs couldn’t wait to tell us she knew all about the “tablets in the pond” (aka TADPOLES) and seeing Ethan laughing so hard as a piece of bread hit a duck! He beamed at the opportunity to have a go at some photography and the rest of us posed!
IMG_0683I love that we always find time out from busy days to just be together each week and that we can see so much beauty around us. I love being with my little family,  having jokes with the kids and my hubs, feeding ducks, not really doing much but loving every moment together as we teach our kids and watch them grow! Whatever we choose to do or talk about, family night is always worth it!

Ah Mary what a lovely post with lovely photos too. Monday family night sounds just perfect and we try and do the same, although ours is normally on a weekend. I can guarantee your children will remember and look back on these nights so fondly, we had similar growing up and I have such happy memories. x
