My week at a glance feels like it has been dominated by laundry and ironing, as I have been trying to get all caught up ready for our holiday in a few days. The cases are just about packed (bar a few toiletries and shoes) and I am now working on getting the house in order as I want to be able to return to a lovely clean and organised home, following a 2 week vaycay in America! I don’t know if perhaps I am expecting a little too much, but I don’t particularly fancy the idea of returning to piles of laundry and tat everywhere whilst we all fight jet lag and have cases of laundry in tow!

Alice has been great during all of this…playing and scurrying around on her little indoor bike, and watching me closely as I move from room to room gathering things. She is an absolute pleasure to spend my days with!

Grateful for …

Sisters! I am grateful to have grown up with my 3 sisters (1 older and 2 younger), and that we now live in closer proximity to strengthen our relationships and be more involved in one another’s lives. I am grateful for my sisters because not only are they useful for babysitting, and to be the focus of many laughs, but because in them I also have dear and treasured friends! And, whilst we are each vastly different from each other in a lot of ways, we also share similarities and I love to share all of the facets of life’s journey with them (and of course the inside jokes and banter).

On Monday evening (in celebration of Mother’s day), we had a great girly night out with our mum to the cinema, fuelled by plenty of chocolate! It was such a laugh, and made me thankful to have such great friends in my sisters.

Also these last couple of days I haven’t been very well – emotional and some anxiety mainly – and I am grateful for one of my sisters in particular coming over for chats and sitting with me whilst I tried to make sense of life!

I am also grateful for my kids and husband, and for their efforts in appreciating me on Mother’s day last weekend. It isn’t the easiest of days for me anymore, but a box of lindt and a yucca plant later, along with lovely kisses and handmade cards certainly made it nicer! I love being a mother (though sometimes I might say I don’t), and I especially love being theirs. Thank you!

I think my biggest success this week is showing up for life when I wanted to hide away! It’s been really hard this week, and realising that I put far too much pressure on myself and that I need to accept help (and that I might need a rest now and then) is totally fine. I cannot handle what I once could, and am not the resilient person I once was either, and as a result I seem to compare me now to who I used to be (or even others that haven’t walked my path). I am hoping that I can soon be successful in letting these things go too, in order to make way for me feeling lighter and happier!

On a less deep note I have been successful in getting everything packed for our hols! Last week was all about getting it together, and this week has been in successfully organising it into cases, in a neat and orderly manner. I can’t believe we have fitted it all in with the oodles of English chocolate and Harry potter merchandise in the mix too!

Finally, I found success in ticking off my first Spring Cleaning item on the “Let’s get organised” agenda (yeah it’s a real thing over here). I pulled everything out of the airing cupboard and re-folded it all, whilst purging many unwanted bedspreads and outgrown clothes that were shoved in there too! It felt really good, and I am proud that despite struggles I have accomplished rather a lot this week!

Found Beauty in…

On Tuesday evening Megsie took her little Rainbow promise and was welcomed into our local Rainbow’s unit. It was so lovely, and such a beautiful little moment in such a busy/crazy day! It is a step down a path I hope she will remain on for many years, because I loved Guides when I was about 10, and I feel it builds strong, kind and confident girls! We both hope it is something she will continue to embrace and will have many moments of achieving and growth.

I also found beauty this week in the singing and dancing of those involved in the spectacular performance of “Flashdance – the musical“, which I saw on Tuesday night with one of my good friends. It was so good and the music and dancing were so much fun. It was nice to have a break doing something I so very much love and hope to see more musicals as they make me so happy!

This time next week I hope I will be far more relaxed and enjoying time as family in Arizona! I am in desperate need of a break from life and lots of sunshine, and I feel that that will be just the thing I need to reboost! I do hope to (and plan to) continue blogging here and there whilst we are away, especially keeping up with this linky at least. And I hope you will pop on by to see what we get up to, or follow along on my Instagram.

Have a lovely weekend.

Hello and welcome back to another week of “MyHeartyLife” – an opportunity for us to share in the goodness and positive points of the previous week!

This week for us has been half term, and whilst I had great plans for a “No spend” week, confident in the fact I could muster up lots of free ideas and days out, by mid week we were headed to the cinema and I was more than ready to dish out the dough for some peace! I am not usually a parent to whine about the school holidays; I usually really love them and I love the bonus days we get to spend together again. But there has been something about this half term that has been incredibly hard and a real test of my patience!

The kids have spent a lot of time arguing and fighting with each other, nagging and making Alice cry! The weather was awful most days, and our washer broke, and so under the circumstances I have sadly been counting down the days until they are back to school, whilst clinging to the brief moments of peace and laughter!

Grateful For

Despite the rubbish weather, and contentious kiddies, I have been grateful for the lovely moments we have been able to enjoy together – The laughs when Ethan got soaked by a wave at the seaside on Tuesday, the lovely date at the Cinema to see Coco for Valentines… a great time walking in the muddy fields and puddles yesterday, and hanging with cousins on Wednesday.

Coco was such a brilliant film and I am grateful that we got to go and see it together. It was so thought provoking and touching, and I look forward to seeing again when it is released on DVD! Our tickets were only £4 each too, so I am grateful that it was cheap!

I am also grateful this week for the lovely day I had in London on Saturday with Ethan, and for my lovely husband and valentine – Nathan! I am grateful everyday for him and the love we share, but I am grateful to have a had a day to really stop and look at what has grown as a result of that love and express it a little more. We are not big celebrators of Valentines day, but we do have our little low key traditions that we enjoy. I love the reminder of how great it is to love and be loved in return and grateful for a bonus little date together!

My biggest success has been getting through this crazy hard half term without losing my mind completely!! I know I usually crack jokes with stuff like this, but nah – this is for real people. I feel it a great accomplishment, and I am hoping that the next school holidays are a lot smoother than this one has been!

Found Beauty In

The 2 most beautiful sights this week were on Tuesday and Yesterday. Both were outdoors and appreciative of nature!

On Tuesday we headed to the coast to collect rocks from the beach to paint, have some fresh air and a walk, and get a few things from the shops. Turns out the air was way more fresh than we anticipated and with a cold blustery day the waves were going nuts and with the added rain, we pretty much froze! It was however a beautiful sight as always to see the waves crashing against the harbour wall and rolling vigorously over the sand.

I loved watching the joy on Ethan’s face as he ran between waves to collect his much wanted rocks.

Yesterday I once again found beauty in our lovely village and surrounding countryside, when we decided to make the most of a lovely sunny day and go for a muddy walk. We did indeed have a muddy walk – after 3 days of heavy rain the fields were ridiculously muddy, yet having all of this beauty and space to breathe right on our doorstep, combined with blue skies and sunshine, and the kids enjoying themselves, was truly a beautiful thing indeed!

I am looking forward to a day in the city with the kids today and the fact that we have also booked a little night away for us all in a hotel (with pool). We all need to just unwind and regroup and so we are hoping for a lovely weekend and some lovely family moments!

I woke up on Monday at the start of a brand new week, and decided it was time to fight the flab! I have gained quite a few L.Bs in the last couple of months (which I want to talk about more in a seperate post) and it’s now got to the point where I just feel blaaaahhh about my body! And so this week has been all about eating better, drinking loads of water, and doing a terrible job at sit ups!

Grateful for…

I have been so grateful this week to own a pair of decent wellies! I got my lovely Joules ones (after a recommendation from friends at playgroup) for my birthday, and I love them! They keep me warm and are so comfy.

They came in super useful this week with the couple days of snow we had, and more so on Wednesday when I decided to go for a spontaneous country walk after taking the kids to school. The sun was shining, there was a dusting of snow, and it was super muddy! I felt in that moment, both grateful to be living where we do now and to be in my wellies so I could trek off to my hearts content.

Within 2 minutes we are in fields and open spaces of great beauty and it was so refreshing. So grateful for my decent wellies to make the journey easier!

This week I successfully made and uploaded my first proper YouTube video (you can see it here). It isn’t the best quality, but I feel so pleased with what I created.

On another note, but by no means less significant, I got to the bottom of my laundry basket yesterday for the first time since Christmas (Hooray), so for the brief 1/2 day we have no laundry I shall high 5 myself and enjoy this great achievement!

Found Beauty in…

This definitely goes to the views I saw on my country walk on Wednesday! Every time I wander those fields and little lanes, and every time I explore the woods and take it all in, I have to take a deep breath and pinch myself that this is my new life now. Its such a contrast to city living. Whilst I loved living in Leeds with all its greatness, I love this stage of life for the easiness of life here and how we have so many lovely views right there on our doorstep to spontaneously discover!

I have started to dance a lot around the lounge with Alice during the day, and it makes me laugh so much! She tries to copy my “awesome” moves, and it is incredibly cute to see her efforts and bum wiggles!

This week we have been on Christmas break from school, and unlike other school holiday’s we have been super laid back and done very little! We have thrown our usual daily routine and mega plans out of the window and spent mornings in our PJ’s, and days eating Christmas treats and snuggling with blankets whilst playing!

The house obviously looks like a right state as a result, with half the decorations still up, laundry to be sorted, and tat to be tidied. But for now we are grabbing opportunities to enjoy these last few days together with all the good reasons to have some treats!

Grateful for…

This week I am incredibly grateful that the kids have been more than happy to stay home and play, draw and watch films. I haven’t been well the last couple of days (nothing more than my period – they’ve been bad since having Alice, and this week the pain was the worse yet) and on Wednesday I couldn’t sleep and cried a lot it hurt so bad. So Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, all I wanted to do was rest. With all of that the kids were so good and understanding, and so I am grateful for that!

I am grateful that all week they have been really good in their behaviour too. I like to think that they’ve turned over a new leaf, but I think reality is more that they are wrecked and still recovering from last term and late night partying!

I am also grateful for school holidays so we can just drift a little and chill, and do what we please. We have been grateful to be closer to family so we can hang with cousins during this time too.

Success

My biggest success this week has been in starting this linky! It might take a while for me to build, but I feel so good that I set the goal and took the plunge right away, before time got away with me and I became too busy with other things.

Found Beauty in…

Yesterday afternoon despite not feeling great, we got out to a soft play in Bridlington (on the sea front). They like it because it’s for older kids and therefore more challenging, it’s at the sea side so equates an adventure, and of course there is always the chance of an ice-cream treat for good behaviour… so a winner all round.

We walked there via the harbour as we always love to look at the fishing boats and out to sea! Despite the grey day and rainy weather it was a beautiful view to take in.

What has been great for you this week? Where have you seen beauty and found joy? When have you felt gratitude? Link up below and let me know or #myheartylife on Insta with an image to sum it up. I look forward to seeing them and connecting together!
