With just a 5 minute walk to the Schlump station on the main line, the Mercure Hotel Hamburg Mitte is in easy access of Hamburgs city centre and main attractions, and is the ideal location for a peaceful nights rest and a hearty breakfast. We stayed here for 2 nights in our recent visit to Hamburg just before Christmas and found it to be a great hotel for a city break as a couple.
I love to stay in Hotels when I travel with Nath, as it adds to the ability to really relax and the experience of a break together. It ensures that I do absolutely zero cleaning or food prep and feels different to when we travel with the kids. Hotel stays mean that we have the assurance of a clean room, a big comfy bed for the night and long hot showers after a packed day of site seeing. They mean that we can completely switch off, wear guest robes and slippers and have an essence of romance in our lives. I just love to put my feet up and relax without distraction whilst skipping through local TV, just to get a feel for the place. And I love to return back at night and see it all cleaned and organised to start again!
We loved our 2 night stay and the cozy feel of the Mercure Mitte Hamburg. Its 4 star rating and extras that encompassed this certainly added to the whole enjoyment of our break away, and here are the main reasons why…
What we loved about the Mercure Hotel Hamburg Mitte
It is far enough out of the city for a quiet rest, and yet close enough to walk… On our arrival at about 11am, we dropped our bags to be stored, picked up a map of the city, and walked straight into its heart. It was about a 20 minute walk (though we stopped for food on the way) and it was great to see the buildings, shops, rivers, cars and people. Walking helps you to notice so many of the little things and meet local people too. Its a great way to find your bearings and just take in a new place. It was great how easily accessible everything was from the hotel, and yet at night time we barely heard a peep!
The following days we walked in the other direction and hopped on a train at Schlump. At night we ran from the train as it was so cold and took us a matter of minutes to get back to our room! As it is on the main line it was literally 5 minutes to anywhere of interest and we chose this option for efficiency,(and warmth from the bitter winter air). But yes, with mild weather a walk into the city is really lovely from the hotel.
The beds are big and comfortable – All beds are queen size and very comfortable. Initially I wasn’t sure about separate quilts, but it was fine. We even slept well with a little visitor between us!
The breakfasts are amazing – I don’t often eat breakfast when I am at home, though I am working on this. But there is something about being away that always makes me fancy it. I think its because I know I am going to be walking so much and so want to fuel up, either way I was not disappointed with what was on offer!
Whilst on the pricey side of things, it is delicious and caters for most dietary needs. Cereals, waffles, breads, cooked breakfast, continental …the list goes on and is served in buffet form. I tried everything from a cooked breakfast to fruit and yoghurt. I loved the pan au chocolate and the array of juices and hot drinks, and we certainly made the most of it!
The hotel is stylish and welcoming – Its plain to see those 4 stars everywhere you look. The hotel has a stylish, contemporary feel with an element of luxury and welcomes you with open arms (not literally). All the staff we spoke to had excellent English, were incredibly helpful and made us feel welcome.
It is family friendly – As Alice was still feeding she tagged along and it was lovely to have her. Though she spent both nights in our bed, the staff had made up a lovely travel cot for her and she enjoyed her own little quilt! Again at breakfast it was more than Okay to wheel her up to the table in her buggy, and many guests commented on her and chatted to us.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Mercure Hotel Hamburg Mitte as a couple (with an added extra)! If you are heading to Hamburg anytime soon and want a great place to spend the night, with gorgeous food and easy access into the city, then I would suggest a room here. It was quiet, comfortable, had everything you would want and need, and just a really nice place!
*Thank you to the Mercure Hotel Hamburg Mitte for providing us with a 2 night complimentary stay in return for an honest review. All comments and pictures are my own.
This looks a great hotel in a fantastic location Mary. I have never stayed in a Mercure hotel but have only ever heard good things about them. Loving the toiletries, and is it just me that gets really excited when you see that not only are they practical, but also look fab as well. And oh my you can’t beat hotel breakfasts can you x
