I was pretty excited to be invited on Friday evening to the new Ecco pizzeria in Leeds to sample some of their menu and to see what makes them different. I am a pizza lover and I am not afraid to admit it, so I was pretty much in my element. The food was gorgeous and I cannot wait for date night to roll round so that we have an excuse to go back!
Ecco pizzeria is based on the concept of Neapolitan street food and uses authentic, fresh ingredients, cooked in a traditional wood fired oven to give it that something special, which I would say it definitely does. My husband was shocked to hear me say “It is the best pizza I have tasted” and I do not say that lightly, but I would also be dishonest to not share that. Other pizzas, whilst delish and a good source of comfort food do not have what Ecco have. The way it is cooked, using a technique which is centuries old, combined with the gorgeous fresh flavours just put it to the top of the league.
I went with one of my sisters in law, which was lovely to be able to chat and catch up, and we loved the chilled out decor and whole set up. We started with dough balls, which were very tasty, before sharing a 1/2 meter pizza.. half “Athens” (feta, caramelised onions, tomatoes, spinach and olives) and the other half “Marrakech” (Moroccan spiced lamb, caramelised red onion, aubergines, peppers, mint and pomegranate seeds). The size was unbelievable and more than adequate for 2 to share.
I could not get over the size, look and whole tastiness of it and that it only costs £8.25 (Bargain)!
During all of this we enjoyed some traditional Italian drinks. My favourite at italian restaurants is always a lemonade and the “Organic Sicilian Lemon” they served was beautiful. We also had some Sicilian ruby orange which I think I will have again next time as it was gorgeous too.
I don’t know how but I managed to also squeeze in 2 scoops of fresh Gelato too – Banoffi and Nutella flavours. It is made fresh there and is light, full or flavour and absolutely delicious. I don’t know how often I closed my eyes eating it, but it took me back to our holiday last summer in Italy, and was just beautiful! Its fab that they also offer the option that you can buy a litre and half litre tub of it to take home (fab or dangerous? I am not so sure)!
Overall, and I can’t say it enough, that the food was top notch and it was a lovely place to eat and discover. I hadn’t heard of Ecco until last week and I was curious as to how good it might be when they had been bold enough to choose to place their newest store slap bang in the middle of 2 massive pizza chains, but it was amazing. The staff were lovely and the food an unbelievable taste sensation. Roll on the weekend because I am totally making the most of their take away, its healthier, tastier and fresher than any other in Leeds and is bound to become a family fave!
Ecco Roundhey Leeds invited us to sample for free some items of choice in return for a post. All thoughts, opinions and pictures are my own and it really was delish!
