Teaching overseas is a fantastic way to challenge yourself and grow as a person. It’s an opportunity to travel and see some different parts of the world, and what better way to learn about another culture than immersing yourself into it? Teaching is rewarding in any country because it allows you to be an integral part of the community and potentially make life-changing impacts on the students. It is for these reasons mainly, that Nathan and I have the goal to live in another country and have him teach in an international school. We almost went last year , but due to covid it fell through. We haven’t dismissed the goal though, if anything it is one of our biggest goals at the moment and, as a result we continue to apply for this year too in hopes of a chapter spent living as a family abroad and him teaching in another country!
If you aren’t sure, then know that teaching abroad comes with its own set of advantages (some you may not have considered)…
If you want to expand upon your CV and gain highly marketable professional skills, teaching abroad might be an option for you to truly consider. You will have to adapt to a new way of life, proving your ability to accommodate and adjust based on your surroundings. You will experience new teaching methods and meet people whom you can learn from and expand upon your knowledge. Moving to a foreign country will also highlight your confidence and commitment, proving to future employers that you are a committed candidate. This will open up a whole host of unique career options for you going forward.
Teaching abroad will also allow you to learn about a new culture and potentially a different language. You will experience different cuisine, celebrate unique cultural and religious traditions, and explore unique architecture, music, and clothing. This is so exciting to us and will allow one to develop a new outlook on life that you can carry with you throughout your future and may even allow you to appreciate your own culture on a deeper level. You’ll create lifelong memories and build friendships like no other – how wonderful!
So, if you’re looking for a new way to challenge yourself, meet amazing new people and generally just enjoy yourself, teaching abroad may be the right route for you. The international school sector is well established, which we have discovered, so it shouldn’t be too difficult for you to find employment – especially if you already have experience as a teacher. Jobs are advertised on all major websites. We cannot wait for a future adventure living and teaching abroad, it will be a massive change but one we will embrace! Watch this space!
