Winter seemed to last forever and if you looked out of the window at all this week here in the UK, then you might be mistaken for thinking we were back in it (this weather is just awful!). But Spring is officially here, and summer is not that far away either and so we can only hope that in the coming weeks we might be blessed with some better weather.
With that in mind, there are things we can currently do to prepare for the arrival of warmer days, bigger social gatherings and school breaks; things that will help us improve life and have a more positive mindset as we look towards the future and brighter summer days. So without further ado, lets look at 4 simple ways to get Summer ready.
Overhaul or Upgrade the BBQ
Nothing screams summer like getting friends and family over for food and a BBQ; delicious grilled offerings, fresh salads, zesty drinks and fabulous company – what’s not to love. If this is your idea of a good time too, but feel like last year’s BBQ model was insufficient, then now is the time to do something about it so that when the sun makes an appearance, you will be ready to roll!
The choice before you is whether you will settle with just giving it a thorough cleaning/replace bricks etc for built ins or, splash out and upgrade it to a new pimped model.
With a larger barbeque set-up, something like a propane grill can provide extra grilling space to better support a big gathering. It’ll also allow more space for prep, cooking and serving up without feeling cramped. With a firepit you can grill and then socialise around the fire.
Whatever you choose though, don’t forget to secure an ample propane supply or kindling in case other people have the same idea too.
And, those of you living stateside – You can get a reliable local propane supply delivered by Discount Propane Inc. They have been serving residents and businesses in Florida for decades and you can visit them at discountpropaneinc.com.
Get more active
If lock down meant you were inactive and grazing more than normal, then you may be currently feeling a little sluggish and wanting to get in shape before Summer. Why not set aside time weekly to get active – whether walking more, running or dusting off your bike and getting on some bike rides with friends or the fam. If you want to look trim come the summer or feel more confident in a swimsuit, there’s still time to do so too. Pick some exercises that you enjoy doing (or are at least more tolerable) and start prepping more fresh foods to fuel your body there are plenty of cleaner eating ideas I have pinned over on pinterest.
Get together with Friends
While you may have kept in touch with some people over Zoom calls or what’s App messages, there’s nothing quite like meeting in person is there? In preparation for a busy summer social life, work towards getting the gang back together and make the most of seeing people again. See who’s away and who might be nearer to home and easier to get back in touch with. Rekindle old friendships that have been left on simmer for too long, arrange some family gatherings, BBQs or trips and reach out to new people and create new bonds too.
Lunch out with a couple of mates or a walk with family, dinner with siblings or even a tasty slice of cake and a bevvy out in the sunshine and some chats does wonders for the soul and is so enriching.
Plan a Trip Away
Having things to look forward to is so enjoyable too and also so good for ones soul! Look into where you might want to have a stay-cation or if you feel able to – get yourself further afield. Now is the prime time to get something booked and fall back in love with your own country and travelling as you discover lovely new places. Contemplate the type of holiday that you enjoy and consider what mode of transportation you prefer. If you’ll be happier at this time with an extended road trip and hotels, or camping instead of grabbing your boarding pass, then plan your itinerary accordingly. Whatever you choose to do, getting away with the fam or as a couple will bring joy in both the going and the planning!
While these are four great ideas to enrich life as you prepare for summer, there are surely others that will possibly hold more appeal for you. So, have a think and see if you can come up with any yourself too. If they do need a bit of prep time, starting sooner will obviously be beneficial and valuable in getting the most out of this summer.
