As a mum of a soon to be one year old, I once again find myself on the hunt for new baby & toddler friendly places or groups that will bring him joy, growth and fun – while hopefully offering adult chat with other parents there. On my hunt, I was delighted to discover that this March, Hull Truck Theatre is hosting a series of Creative Coffee Mornings to welcome communities back to the theatre who may have been most isolated during the pandemic. If you are local to Hull / East Yorkshire, then like me you may be excited to also discover that this includes some free Baby & toddler adventure sessions too. I love taking kids to the theatre to embrace the arts and these sessions look like lots of fun for parents, babies & toddlers alike.
We have loved being back at Hull Truck theatre to see recent live performances but it is delightful that they now want locals to enjoy the open spaces and take part in activities that make them a hub for local communities. Hull Truck recognise that over the last couple of years many people have missed the opportunity to come together to participate in the arts, so they want to do something about that. And, on Wednesdays 16, 23, 31 March people (you and I – and everyone else who fancies), are invited to get creative with free workshops and classes. It’s a chance to meet new people, learn new skills, get out with the baby, or just grab a coffee and a piece of cake.
The sessions are as follows, and I look forward to popping along for a little nosy/creative adventure sess with Baby O!
Dates: Wednesday 16th March, Wednesday 23rd March and Wednesday 30th March.
Toddler Adventures: 10am – 10:45am – Encouraging you to move, sing and play with our parent and toddler sessions (age guidance 12 months +).
Baby Adventures: 11:15am – 12pm – Introducing sensory games, storytelling and songs for parents and their babies (age guidance up to 12 months).
Both the Baby Adventures and Toddler Adventures will be a morning of fun for parents and carers to bring their children to the theatre, giving them the chance to meet other families, encouraging them to stick around after the session and discover Hull Truck Theatre’s play corner. They will be able to share in an interactive experience and socialise – how good does that sound.
For those without kids/babies at home, they’re offering creative coffee morning sessions –
Craft and Chat: 11am – 12:30pm – This will be a morning with friends old and new, whilst trying something different, learning new skills in their creative activities for adults that stimulate conversations and joy. Craft and Chat are for adults of any age where they open the space up to focus on being social whilst creating and sharing each other’s work.
Fit to Create: 12pm – 13:30pm – this is an invitation for local theatre freelancers to come together to find new ways of looking after themselves. These sessions will be focused on mindfulness, building resilience and strategies for wellbeing, hosted by a professional wellbeing coach. Booking is essential for this session.
Tickets are FREE (Booking is recommended.) and all sessions are located at Hull Truck Theatre public foyer spaces, 50 Ferensway, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, HU2 8LB. And, the bonus part – delicious cakes, snacks, teas, and coffees, made from locally sourced produce, will be available to purchase from award-winning local caterers, Shoot the Bull.
March is gearing up for some exciting things to check out.
