The Ordinary Moments 28/52 – School Visits and Preschool Graduation

I wanted for a while and for many reasons to home educate my kids (at least for the first few years) It seemed so wonderful, so flexible and suited to the child… unfortunately due to our current circumstances and my uncertainty with grief we decided school was the right thing for them right now and this week opened the page to the chapter I have been dreading – the path to starting school/Nursery in mainstream education ahhhhhhh.
InstagramCapture_ee8971c3-38cd-4eb8-89bb-2202acc3a81fAs I sat at playgroup on Tueday morning I had the feeling I was supposed to be somewhere. I was. Ethan was due to visit his class room and new buddies on Tuesday morning and Megan Wednesday afternoon and I had completely forgotten Ethan’s visit! After a mad panic and a frantic phone call to school Ethan was able to tag along to the Wednesday group visit (which was far more convenient) and Megan into her new Nursery.

Megan went in with zero issues and not even a glance back (phew) and after telling them she was potty trained… came out having Pooped her pants and wet herself (awkward), but other than this minor set back I was surprised at how “right” and natural it felt taking them. No regrets, no worry. I dropped them off and felt calm and happy as oppose to the anticipated dread of this moment that has been brewing. They both left beaming and chatting all about their uniforms, friends, teachers, trophies, water play, drinking fountains and whole host of other things. They had made some pictures and new friends and greatly looking forward to September.
school visitIt wasn’t how I had hoped or imagined this phase of life to be for them but I am not disappointed either, it felt right and they were happy! I will really miss the wonderful staff and atmosphere of the Montessori nursery they have been attending but I know that this school will be great and also convenient for us all. The small numbers, kindness and values it has are perfect for our family and its a really good school and was our 1st choice – Bonus.

To mark the “end of an era” Ethan “graduated” pre-school on Saturday…
ethan graduationIt was lovely but also SO funny to see all of the extravagance for a bunch of 4 year old kids…the cap and gown cracked me up, but I am really pleased to have been a part of it because it was really sweet to watch and to hear and see just how fond of the kids all the staff are and to also mark the end of this phase and look forward to the next. I don’t worry about Megan in our next chapter…its only Nursery and she can hold her own and is fiercely independent but there are so many things I wonder and worry for about Ethan – What will be his strengths? What will we need to spend more time on? Who will be his friends? What will he look like in his uniform? Will he love the good old Biff, Kip and Chip books? Will he be happy? Will people like him? Will he stand his ground? Will he have fun? Adjust well to it? Will he shine?

Those photos are priceless! How lovely to have such a great ceremony. I have my eldest’s nursery graduation next week but I don’t think they’ll get to wear gowns and mortar boards unfortunately!
So please for you that they were so happy and excited about going in September- I hope it puts your mind at rest so you can enjoy the summer xx

So do I Becky haha I think I will..until uniform shopping springs up on us! Oh I really hope your kids Nursery get them little outfits for the graduation, it seems to be quite popular these days with them. Either way though it will be lovely to reflect on how big they’re getting and all that awaits! How are you feeling about starting school? x

I’m feeling ok at the moment thanks, as Ava is at the preschool already as well as nursery, and has worn a uniform since last September! Was a bit emotional when she first wore it though! She’s really ready and for her it’s just going up to the next class so I’m not sure she’ll notice the difference, so that should make it easier for us all! Still, the past 4 and a half years have flown by and it’s weird to think that my baby is going to big school! X

Aw these pictures are gorgeous. I love the one with all of you on it. My 2 also dressed up when they graduated and in my sons case this was 10 years ago. Time really does seem to fly once they get to school. I am sure they will both flourish in the next chapter of their lives. hugs xx

Thank you Tracey. Yes its been ages since we had a nice family pic where we looked relaxed and happy. I like it. I bet you cant believe how time has flown, because I think the last 4.5 yrs have and he’s not even in school yet x

They’ll def love the Biff, Kipper & Chip books – both mine did, felt like Kipper was a personal friend of mine given the amount of books they read! What I found the hardest about them starting school was suddenly you feel like you get zero time with them. By the time they are home from school, bit of play time, dinner, its almost bath and bed time..tricky adjustment x

What great photos!! I love the little cap and gowns – so so cute! I’m glad that you’re feeling happy with everything and that they are so excited about nursery/school – it must be like a weight has lifted! I can’t wait for back to school shopping – I used to love it so much as a child (and adult) xx

Its so cute isn’t it? haha thanks Chantal. I used to love get new stuff and stationary for back to school, so yeah I think that it will be exciting when it comes around. I still have in the back of my mind whether or not Megs should go or stay where she is haha. I just absolutely love where they are x

I love the photos Mary- amazing! Mads nursery doesn’t do anything like that although she went on a leavers day out. I am so nervous and apprehensive about this new period of our lives in September too, so I can imagine how you feel. I would love to home school but I know that I wouldn’t do justice for my girl, so mainstream education is where it’s at for her I think. It doesn’t mean I am not dreading it though and like you I have all these questions in the back of my head. x

Phew feeling more normal when I hear that others feel it too! Where was her day out? It just all goes so fast doesn’t it x
