An Unexpected Haircut

A couple of weeks ago we were awoken suddenly by a very enthusiastic pair of kiddos with one announcing to us that “E-fan cut ma hair”! WHHHHATTTTTTT!!! They had got up at the crack of dawn like little mice, bypassed their usual visit to our room and reaped havoc downstairs…

I am more than aware that this is something nearly EVERY kid does. I know the story of my sister that chopped her pigtail off the night or week (cant remember specifically) before our aunts wedding when she was to be a flower girl. And I remember seeing so many kids with awkward hair cuts because they tried to cut their own hair (and since this have heard many more hilarious tales of children cutting their own hair), but to get ya brother to do it for you? Now this is a whole new level!

Whilst I always knew this was “one of those things kids do”, I never expected that my kids would tag team this childhood drama. In fact since a trip to A&E a couple of years ago after Megsies thumb was deeply cut trying to protect her head when E tried to cut her hair, I really thought I had learnt that lesson and have been very vigilant in hiding scissors and putting them out of sight… at least that’s what I thought I had been doing?! And with that I also thought that that was our story to tell when it came to kids cutting hair (It wasn’t) as I never expected them to sniff them out at dawn whilst the parentals slept!

I take a while to rise as I am a deep sleeper and one that is hard to stir, so whilst being half asleep and trying to process this announcement I next heard Nath say “OOOOOHHHHH dear, mummy will not be happy about this”!!!
My eyes sprung open and we looked at each other, then the handy work and then at the suspect! It was pretty bad…I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry,  I looked at her new locks and just laughed my head off, Oh my, what a mess!! I then cried a little at how terrible it was and that she might end up with a boy cut!!

The same day, as though we had been cursed or something, she got her cousins mechanical train wrapped in her hair at the restaurant where we were for lunch with the fam after swimming. After a lot of faffing it was evident that of course the only way to get it out was to hack it out…she now had Ethan’s handy work around the sides and an almost bald patch on top. Again laughter was the best emotion to express in this situation and I rushed to get home to get her to the hairdressers to make her look half decent again.

The hairdresser was surprisingly chilled over it and advised I part her hair in the centre so as to cover the hacked job, and she tidied it up as best as she could. Thank goodness her locks were saved!

We are now working on middle partings, gripping it out of sight with a whole host of sparkly and colourful hair clips, and trying to grow it out, all whilst hoping that we NEVER have any more awkward and unexpected hair cuts from these 2!

This has made me laugh (sorry I know it is not funny – I would be distraught if it was Meme!) as I remember cutting my own fringe when I was about 7 – Eek my Mum went mental. I looked crazy! Good advice from the hairdresser – she looks beautiful x

Oh dear!! When I was little my mum followed a trail of hair to my den where I had used my child safety scissors to restyle myself! Oops! Two hair related accidents in one day is very unlucky though! Glad you got it sorted and you really can’t tell from your after photos! 😀 #bestandworst
